308C Excavator Electrical and Electronic System – Accelerator Cable – Adjust

When a governor actuator is replaced, or when it is necessary to readjust the tension in the accelerator cable, use the following procedure:

(15) Nut

  1. Loosen nut (3) from locknut (4) on accelerator cable (2) as much as possible.
  1. Put the end of accelerator cable (2) through the upper side hole (5) of governor lever (9). Install nut (15) in order to hold accelerator cable (2) to the upper side hole.
  1. If necessary, insert the threaded portion of accelerator cable (2) into the groove of support (7) .
  1. Look at the governor lever (9) from the rear of the machine. Rotate governor lever (9) counterclockwise to the high idle stop position. Hold the lever against high idle stop bolt (8) .
  1. Tighten nut (3) until the lever remains against high idle stop bolt (8). (The lever should remain against the high idle stop bolt when the lever is released.) Tighten nut (3) for approximately two additional turns.
  1. Fix accelerator cable (2) on the support (7) by tightening locknut (4). Do not allow accelerator cable (2) and nut (3) to turn.

    (11) Engine speed dial

  1. Move engine speed dial (11) to the RABBIT position and start the engine. The engine should run at high idle.

    (13) Low idle indicator

  1. Check that low idle indicator (13) on monitor panel (12) turns OFF.
  1. Check that governor lever (9) is in contact with high idle stop bolt (8) .

If governor lever (9) is not in contact with high idle stop bolt (8), stop the engine. Repeat Steps 1 through 8.

When governor lever (9) is in contact with high idle stop bolt (8), do not stop the engine. Proceed to Step 10.

  1. Move engine speed dial (11) to the TORTOISE position while the engine is operating. The engine should run at low idle.
  1. Check that governor lever (9) is in contact with low idle stop bolt (10) .

If governor lever (9) is not in contact with low idle stop bolt (10), turn engine speed dial (11) to the RABBIT position. Check that low idle indicator (13) is OFF. Stop the engine. Proceed to Step 12.

When governor lever (9) is in contact with low idle stop bolt (10), turn engine speed dial (11) to the RABBIT position. Check that low idle indicator (13) is OFF. Stop the engine. STOP.

  1. Repeat the above procedure after putting the end of accelerator cable (2) in lower side hole (6) of governor lever (9).

Note: Nut (3) must have the correct amount of tension. When the tension on accelerator cable (2) is insufficient, the HIGH IDLE engine speed will not be obtained. When the tension on the accelerator cable is excessive, the load on governor actuator (1) will be excessive.

Note: When spare parts for governor actuator (1) are used, do not supply power to the governor actuator. (Do not turn the start switch to the ON position.) Do not apply power until the adjustment of accelerator cable (2) is completed. If the engine is running, turn engine speed dial (11) to the RABBIT position. Check that the low idle indicator turns OFF. Turn the start switch OFF and adjust accelerator cable (2).

(14) Switch for one touch low idle

The switch for one touch low idle (14) is located on the top of the right control lever. Push the switch for one touch low idle (14) in order to turn ON/OFF low idle indicator (13) .

A governor actuator assembly includes a governor actuator and an accelerator cable. Do not activate the governor actuator with the engine speed dial until the new governor actuator assembly has been installed correctly. If the governor actuator is activated, or if accelerator cable (2) is disconnected, then initialize the governor actuator in the following manner:

  • Turn the starter switch to ON.

  • Turn the engine speed dial to the RABBIT position.

  • Check that low idle indicator (13) turns OFF.

  • Turn the starter switch to OFF.

  • Perform the adjustment procedure for the accelerator cable.
