(E) Determine dimension (E) by measuring from the mating surface of the housing to the end face of the inner race of the needle bearing. Use the correct thrust plate (1) that is required by dimension (E) .

(1) Part number 171-9448 Plate … 5.3 to 5.8 mm (0.21 to 0.23 inch) (1) Part number 171-9447 Plate … 5.8 to 6.5 mm (0.23 to 0.26 inch) (1) Part number 171-9446 Plate … 6.5 to 7.0 mm (0.26 to 0.28 inch)

(2) Apply 1U-8846 Gasket Cement to the mating surface of the housing and to the flange of the gear before installation.

(3) Torque for plug … 15.7 ± 0.8 N·m (139 ± 7 lb in)

(4) Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant on the mating surface of the housing and the seal. Press the seal into position. Apply grease to the lip of the seal.

(5) Torque for four screws … 24.5 ± 4.9 N·m (215 ± 45 lb in)

(6) Apply 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease to the mating surface of the housing and to the mating surface of bearings (6) before driving the bearings into the housing.

(7) Torque for plug … 15.7 ± 0.8 N·m (139 ± 7 lb in)

(8) Torque for pipe assembly … 45 ± 4.5 N·m (33 ± 3 lb ft)

(9) Torque for pipe assembly … 86 ± 8 N·m (65 ± 6 lb ft)

(10) Torque for breather assembly … 25 ± 3 N·m (220 ± 27 lb in)

(11) Torque for nipple … 35 ± 4 N·m (26 ± 3 lb ft)

(12) Torque for elbow … 35 ± 4 N·m (26 ± 3 lb ft)

(13) Torque for plug … 35 ± 4 N·m (26 ± 3 lb ft)
