Fan Drive Bearing - Lu bricate
SMCS Code: 1359-086-BD
Some of the fan d
rives have grease fittings and some
of the fan drives do not have grease fittings.Ifthereis
no grease fitting, periodic lubrication is not required.
Thefandriver
equires grease only if the fan drive
is equipped with a zerk.

Lubricate the grease fitting that is on the fan drive
bearing wit
h High Speed Ball Bearing Grease or the
equivalent.
Inspect th
e fan drive pulley assembly for wear or for
damage. If the shaft is loose, an inspection of the
internal components should be performed. Refer to
the System
s Operation Testing and Adjusting Manual
for additional information.

Fuel Injector - Inspect/Adjus t
SMCS Code:
1290-025
Note: Perform this procedure when the engine valve
lash is in
spected.
NOTICE
The camshafts must be correctly timed with the crank-
shaft before an adjustment of the lash for the fuel in-
jector is made. The timing pins must be removed from
the camshafts before the crankshaft is turned or dam-
age to the cylinder block will be the result.
Inspect the adj
ustment of the lash for the fuel injector
according to the Testing And Adjusting, “Fuel Injector
Adjustment”. Adjust the lash for the fuel injector, if
necessary.

Fuel Syste m - Prime
SMCS Code: 1250-548; 1258-548
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or elec-
trical compo
nents can c ause a fire. To help pre-
vent possible injury, turn the start switch off when
changing fuel filters or water separator elements.
Cleanupfue
l spills immediately.
The fuel system should be primed after a unit injector
is changed o
r when the fuel system is totally dry.
Note: The fuel system does not typically need to be
primed when
the primary fuel filters or secondary fuel
filters are changed or when an Electronic Control
Module (ECM) is replaced. When the engine is
started un
der these circumstances, the engine may
momentarily run rough until the air is purged from
the system.
NOTICE
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly
clean the area around a fuel system component that
will be dis
connected. Fit a suitable cover over any dis-
connected fuel system components.
