Generator Set Vibration - Inspect

Generator Set Vibration -
Inspect
SMCS Code: 4450-040-VI
Check for vibration damage. Vibration may cause the
following problems:
•
Loose fittings
•
Loose belts
•
Excessive noise
•
Cracked insulation
The following
areas are susceptible to vibration
damage:
•
Stator outpu
t leads
•
Protective sleeving
•
Insulation
•
Exposed elec
trical connections
•
Transformers
•
Fuses
•
Capacitors
•
Lightning arresters
When a generator set is installed a vibration plot
should be recorded in order to assist in diagnosing
potential pr
oblems. This vibration plot should be
updated yearly. The vibration plot should also be
updated when the generator set is moved. Refer to
Data Sheet,
LEKQ4023, “Linear Vibration” for the
allowable limits of vibration.

Heat Shield - In spect/Replace

NOTICE
Use caution when you inspect heat shields. Ensure
that the en
gine is not running and ensure that the
engine components are cool before you touch heat
shields.
Visually inspe
ct all heat shields for signs of wear.
Some unacceptable signs of wear are listed below .
•
Outer coverin

•
Outer covering that is cut
•
Outer covering that shows signs of abrasion
•
Fasteners tha
t are loose or missing
•
Insulation material that is exposed
Replace all heat shields that show any signs of wear.

Hoses and Clam ps -
Inspect/Replace
SMCS Code: 7554-040; 7554-510
Inspect all hoses for leaks that are caused by the
following conditions:
•
Cracking
•
Softness
•
Loose clamps
Replace hoses that are cracked or soft. T ighten any
loose clamps.
NOTICE
Do not bend or strike high pressure lines. Do not in-
stall bent o
r damaged lines, tubes or hoses. Repair
any loose or damaged fuel and oil lines, tubes and
hoses. Leaks can cause fires. Inspect all lines, tubes
and hoses ca
refully. Tighten all connections to the rec-
ommended torque.
Check for the following conditions:
•
End fittings that are damaged or leaking
•
Outer covering that is chafed or cut
•
Exposedwirethatisusedforreinforcement
•
Outer covering that is ballooning locally
•
Flexible part of the hose that is kinked or crushed
•
Armoring that is embedded in the outer covering
A constant torque hose clamp can be used in place
of any standard hose clamp. Ensure that the constant
torque hose clamp is the same size as the standard
clamp.
