Excavator Supplement for 3066 Engine
Disassembly and Assembly Section
WARNING
Personal injury can result from contact with refrig-
erant.
Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep
face and hands away to help prevent injury.
Protective goggles must always be worn when re-
frigerant lines are opened, even if the gauges in-
dicate the system is empty of refrigerant.
Always use precaution when a fitting is removed.
Slowly loosen the fitting. If the system is still under
pressure, release it slowly in a well ventilated area.
Personal injury or death can result from inhaling
refrigerant through a lit cigarette.
Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a
lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling
fumes released from a flame contacting air con-
ditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or
death.
Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or
wherever refrigerant gas may be present.
Use a certified recovery and recycling cart to prop-
erly remove the refrigerant from the air condition-
ing system.
77. Evacuate the air conditioning system.
Reference: Evacuate the system. Refer to Testing
and Adjusting, "Refrigerant System - Evacuate"
for the correct procedure.
78. Charge the air conditioning system. The correct
charge is 1.1 kg (2.42 lb).
Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting,
"Refrigerant System - Charge" for the correct
procedure.
79. Install high efficiency filters in place of the pilot
filter, case drain filter, and the return filter.
Note: High efficiency filters should not be run for
more than 250 hours before you change back to
the standard filters.
NOTICE
When the main hydraulic pump has been serviced or
the hydraulic oil has been replaced, the air in the hy-
draulic system must be purged. Do not start the engine
until the main hydraulic pump has been filled with oil.
Operating the hydraulic pump without proper lubrica-
tion will damage the pump and other hydraulic com-
ponents.
80. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct
level.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance
Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the proper oil
viscosity.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance
Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for
the correct filling procedure.
81. Release
the pressure from the main hydraulic
pump.
Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Main
Hydraulic Pump Air Pressure - Purge" in the
service manual.
82. Obtain a hydraulic oil sample from the main
S-O-S port.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance
Manual, "Sampling Interval and Location of
Sampling Valve" for the correct location.
83. If the S-O-S sample exceeds ISO 18/15, flush
the hydraulic system.
Reference: Refer to Contamination Control
Guidelines, SEBF8436, "Hydraulic System
Flushing Procedure for 320C Hydraulic
Excavators" for further information.
84. Check the governor actuator.
Reference: Refer to Systems Operation/Testing
and Adjusting, "Governor Actuator - Calibrate"
for further information.
End By:
a. Install the fan. Refer to Disassembly and
Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install" in this
manual.
b. Install the engine hood. Refer to Disassembly
and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install" in
this manual.
