Fuel System - Prime
SALT Track (Sealed and Lubricated
Tr ack)
The following check is for Caterpillar SALT
Undercarriages that have the standard idler.
Check
Check shim adjustment when the wear on the link
and the roller system for the SALT undercarriage is
at 25%, 50%, and 75%.
1. Putthemachineonahard,flat surface.
2. Raise the blade to three inches off the ground.
3. Move the machine in reverse until a track shoe
grouser is directly below the center of the front
idler shaft.
4. Measure the height from the flat ground surface
to the grouser tip that is centered below the track
idler shaft.
5. Maintain the grouser height (rise) to the following
dimensions.
a. Grouser height under the front idlers
Minimum – 0.5 mm (0 inch)
Maximum – 4 mm (0.160 inch)
Adjust
6. If the grouser height is not accepta ble, add shims
to the lower shim pack.
7. Add shims to the upper shim pack. Make sure that
a gap is spaced between the bearing block and
the upper shim pack. 2 mm (0.080 inch) to 4 mm
(0.160 inch)
8. Measure the gap between the side shims and the
idler block.
9. Add shims to both side shim packs until the total
amount of gap is between 4 mm (0.160 inch) and
8 mm (0.320 inch).
Note: Be sure to add the same number of shims to
both the left and right side so the idler will remain
centered in the track roller frame.
See “Fine Tuning the Idler Height”, if necessary.
See Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Track
- Check/Adjust” for information on needed track
adjustment procedures.
