Machine Operation
REVERSE LEFT (3
F) – Move lever (3) to the left
in order to turn the machine to the left. The turning
radius for the machine is proportional to the control
lever positio
n. In order to slightly turn the machine to
the left, slightly move lever (3) to the left. If you want
to increase your turn, move lever (3) further to the
left. If you w
ant the machine to counterrotate, move
lever (3) all the way to the left past the detent. When
the tracks counterrotate, the right side track will rotate
backward, w
hile the left track rotates forward.
REVERSE RIGHT (3G) – Move lever (3) to the right
in order to t
urn the machine to the right. The turning
radius for the machine is proportional to the control
lever position. In order to slightly turn the machine to
the right,
slightly move lever (3) to the right. If you
want to increase your turn, move lever (3) further to
the right. If you want the machine to counterrotate,
move lever
(3) all the way to the right past the detent.
When the tracks counterrotate, the right side track will
rotate forward, while the left track rotates backward.
Changing the direction of the machine is performed
by first moving lever (3) to the NEUTRAL position.
Then move
lever (3) in the opposite direction.
For smooth directional changes, smoothly move
lever (3
) to the NEUTRAL position and away from
the NEUTRAL position. Also, deceleration of the
engine speed makes for easier directional changes.
However
, this is not required.
Note: In order to turn the machine, lever (3) must be
placed
in either the FORWARD detent position or in
the REVERSE detent position.
Track
Speed (3H)

Il
lustration 53
LOW – Roll the wheel (3H) to the left when
al
ower speed is desired.
Note: Wheel (3H) allows variable speeds via the
incremental rotation of the wheel.
HIGH – Roll the wheel (3H) to the right
when a higher speed is desired.
The machine is set with the following factory settings.
•
Maximum forward speed of 9.0 km/h (5.6 mph)
•
Maximum reverse speed of 10.0 km/h (6.2 mph)
REVERSE and FORWARD Speeds – The
REVERSE speed is totally independent of the speed
of the machine in the FORWARD position.
Note: There is a maximum limit of 10.0 km/h
(6.2 mph) on the forward speed and on the reverse
speed. Consult your Caterpillar dealer in order to
change the speed settings.
Speed Recall Button (3J)
Preset the Speed Values
The power train ECM programs the preset values for
a forward speed and a reverse speed with input from
speed recall button (3J).
In order to program the preset values, the operator
should hold down the button for at least 3 seconds
under the following conditions.
“FNR”
F–The steering and transmission control allows
machinetravelintheFORWARDdirection.
N–The steering and transmission control is in the
NEUTRAL position.
R–The steering and transmission control allows
machine travel in the REVERSE direction.
Forward – The “FNR” status is FORWARD when the
programmed criteria are met. Then, only the forward
joystick input (speed value) is captured.
Reverse – The “FNR” status is REVERSE when the
programmed criteria are met. Then, only the reverse
joystick input (speed value) is captured.
Neutral – The “ FNR” status is NEUTRAL when
the programmed criteria are met. Both the current
forward and reverse joystick inputs (speed values)
are captured.
1. Ensure that parking brake switch (14) is
disengaged.
2. Move the steering and transmission control to the
FORWARD position.
